A VERANDAH is a roofed structure, and it must have a building permit. There are no exemptions for verandah permit.

 

A PERGOLA is just a timber or steel frame WITH NO ROOF. A pergola may be exempt from needing a Building Permit if it is less than 20 square meters in size and meets some additional requirements.
